Anything else?

This is 40 minutes of fun music and movement activities to enjoy with your child. Basically, each weekly session follows the same sort of pattern so that over time everyone (children and adults) know what sort of routine to expect:

  • A greetings song to begin with, to welcome everybody into the group - usually sitting in a circle
  • Then a few more sitting down activities, such as rolling a ball to each other, making (pretend) soup, learning to recognise our names, etc.
  • Next we begin to move, usually by making a circle and doing some action songs all together
  • Then we might do some individual movement, such as walking around or chasing bubbles to pop, for example
  • After we’ve expended quite a lot of energy, we will sit down again and perhaps play some instruments or take part in a counting song
  • To finish with, we will sing a goodbye song to all our new friends

Not at all!

Enthusiasm and a willingness to join in is essential, a singing voice is not!! (as you will find out when you hear Clare sing!)

You and your child will experience a range of sensory activities (listening, singing, moving, handling objects and instruments, interacting etc) that are set to music

Both children and their carers benefit in this shared physical, social and intellectual activity.

The sessions suit any child who is reasonably steady on their feet. The average age of the group is usually between 3 - 5 years.

Sessions are particularly useful for those whose first language is not English.

Briefly;

For children, learning to read, write and speak involves rhythmical activity, which is effortlessly learnt through music. Writing involves fluid fine and gross motor skills, which are developed through specifically-designed actions during the songs.  Reading requires a sense of pulse, flow and phrasing, again prevalent in all our musical examples. Speaking demands vocal capacity, rhythm, breath-control, timing and intonation, which are all present in our songs and activities.

For carers, these sessions use a variety of musical genres and styles that engage everyone equally. They provide the opportunity to take part in a social and creative activity with your child. One which you can share and carry on with your child anywhere and everywhere between the sessions.

Because this proven method of learning has been developed and used in a wide variety of settings for many years.

All the materials have been created through a longstanding collaboration between an Early Years’ expert and a professional musician.

Every song and activity is underpinned by the Early Learning Goals and every activity covers a specific set of learning objectives (see link…) and are closely linked to the English EYFS curriculum.

Inspiration for developing these music sessions has been drawn from a wide variety of influences; Froebel, Emilia Reggio, Dalcroze, Kodaly, Orff etc.

If you have given us your permission, Musicbuds may use photographs and videos from the sessions for publicity purposes. You can let us know your preferences on the booking form.
